Reflecting on and understanding one's philosophical approach to teaching and learning is an important step in both course design and classroom practice. There are several key teaching philosophies which inform my classroom design choices, and which more broadly inform my approach to the classrooms in which I work. These philosophies are not content specific, but instead, reflect a specific approach to the purpose of teaching and the practices I seek to uphold in any classroom context. While there are many philosophies that inform my practice, the three that are most significant are critical pedagogy, student-centered classrooms, and attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Each of these elements impacts the design choices I make and the teaching practices I employ.
